Our Mission
Ladies of Charity Calvert County serve those in need by following the example of Jesus Christ. With compassion, respect, and humility, we work to relieve poverty in all its forms by addressing the nutritional, financial, emotional, and spiritual needs of our neighbors and community.
Our History
Founded in 17th-century France by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac, the Ladies of Charity have served the poor through prayer and personal service for over 400 years. Established in the United States more than 150 years ago, our local chapter began in 1968 as St. Anthonyโs Ladies of Charity.
Today, we continue this Vincentian spirit by offering our time, talents, and devotion to bring dignity and compassion to every person we serve.
Today the Ladies of Charity international organization includes 100,000 volunteers in 56 countries. We strive to alleviate property in all of its forms. Each organization has a different set of ministries to address local issues. The AIC recently made a video that showcases services provided by Ladies of Charity across the world. There is a segment in this video that features one of our Easter distributions and our very own Hon Winbush who can be seen distributing extra items to clients in their cars at each opening.
Our Vision
Over the next 10 years, the Ladies of Charity Calvert County will continue to meet community needs through both traditional ministries and innovative programs that respond to changing populations and limited resources.
Strategic Goals
- Strengthen and develop programs addressing food insecurity
- Recruit and engage new members and volunteers
