The Pantry House

Mission

The Ladies of Charity Calvert County strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ by serving those in need with compassion, respect, and humility.  We work to relieve poverty in all its forms.  Our ministries focus on the nutritional, financial, emotional, and spiritual needs of our neighbors and on outreach projects to our community.

How we were established

Founded by St. Vincent de Paul, patron of all charity, the Ladies of Charity responded to the needs of the poor in seventeenth century France. Together with St. Louise de Mariliac, they went quietly about their tasks, seeking no recognition, satisfied with the knowledge that they were serving Christ in the person of the poor. The Ladies of Charity, since their origin, have possessed the charism of their founder, daily prayer and personal service to the poor.

The Ladies of Charity was established in the United States over 150 years ago. Our local chapter was established in 1968 as St. Anthony’s Ladies of Charity.  That same Vincentian spirit characterizes our local chapter organization today, more than 400 years after the founding. We ask members to provide the personal gift of self, of time, devotion, sacrifices, and perseverance in the effort to bring dignity to each person and to respond with compassion to every human misery.

10 year plan

Vision

The Ladies of Charity Calvert County address the needs of those in our community through both traditional ministries and innovative programs designed to meet the challenges of a changing population and uncertain resources.

Strategic Plan Goals

– To restore the Pantry building with expanded capabilities to serve those in need.
– To evaluate and develop innovative or expanded programs to enhance the services provided through the Pantry and existing ministries that address food insecurity.
– To develop programs designed to recruit new members to the LCCC and motivate members and others to increase their level of volunteer service to our ministries.
– To identify and implement programs to increase the LCCC’s involvement with and support to our local communities (primarily but not limited to North Beach and Chesapeake Beach).
– To identify the populations of aging persons and those who are homebound and develop programs to address the issues of isolation and needs (nutritional, financial, emotional, and spiritual).
– To develop and implement both traditional and innovative fundraising programs to ensure sufficient funding for the solvency of the LCCC, to support its existing and new ministries and programs, and provide funding flexibility to respond to immediate, unanticipated expenses.
